DIY Cake Stands

If you were wondering why I suddenly jumped onto the DIY train, I am throwing a baby shower for my sister-in-law tomorrow.  I got all over eager and thought that I am Martha Stewart and is making ALL the decorations myself. I worked like a crazy DIYer over the weekend and every night after work this week to get everything done.

As I was browsing through my kitchen cupboard looking for something to put the cupcakes on, I realized that all the cake stands that I own, is too girly and my sister-in-law is expecting a baby boy. The colour scheme are greys, blues and pastel colours, my pink cupcake stand will not look too good with bright blue cupcakes on.

So once again, I had to improvise. I grabbed a couple of plastic plates and glasses from the store for R24, some super glue and grey spray paint.

Each piece got 2 even coats of grey paint.

After letting them dry, I got Viv to glue them on top of each other. (I am no fan of super glue. I got scarred for life after gluing my fingers together as a child)

There you have yourself a good lookin’, cheep cupcake stand.

I ordered bright blue cupcakes, the grey background will make the blue pop. And don’t worry, I will line the plates with paper doilies, I don’t want to poison the guests with spray paint residue.

Note: Wear gloves when you spray paint and ideally do not do this project in your work clothes. It now looks like I haven’t washed my hands for 10 years and my work clothes are gonners.
