Path your way

Posted on March 7, 2012

In yesterday’s post, I gave you an update of the outside of Raybelle and if you looked past the horrible unpainted, grassless house, you would’ve seen our new little path that connects the gate to the front door. And yes, I am going to brag about that DIY project again, because we are so impressed with ourselves. The thing is, we have done projects much more difficult than that, but just the fact that our projects have now moved to the outside of the house, makes us so darn excited. We have looked forward to the day that we can start working on the outside for… about 6 months, and the outside of the house is looking TERRIBLE, if I may say so myself.

If you were wondering why we waited so long to start updating the outside of our house, well, we don’t believe in doing something if me don’t have the moolah.  We save up for specific projects (after placing them in categories of “priority” to “less important” and “nice to do”) and then do it when we have the cash, which means that the exterior was in the less important category for a v-e-r-y long time.

Now, we have the time, money and energy to start updating the exterior, and we realize that winter is on its way. So great, now we are working against time/ winter as well. Gotto love this renovation process.

But let’s move back to the actual purpose of this post.

Our grand ‘ol garden path.

First, we measured out the size of the path and then started digging out a couple of centimeters of dirt.

Then, we arranged the concrete blocks to give us an idea of where to put the string of wooden poles. (You can get it all at your nearest nursery.)

You buy it like this all rolled up.

Then, level the ground and slope it to one side to make sure that water runs away and don’t create a puddle which will become a breading zone for mosquitoes.

I am so good at this. No, seriously, if I ever want to change careers and quite my job as a Marketing and Communications Manager, I am starting a ground leveling business.

Then we placed some weed control cloth. It also helps drain water.

Then on top of that we placed the blocks.

And then came 2 bags of gravel.

TADA…

Mind blowing right?

Now, we need grass.
